PART NUMBER: COG240
15 teeth COG gear , Speedometer Repair Gear,
Volvo 240 Years 1985-93
Replacement 15 teeth odometer pod cluster cog gear.
ATTENTION!
This is a15 tooth gear that is fused to the back part of the odometer motor gear cluster. The cod gear (A) as shown on the picture is made of some sort of soft plastic material and is engaged with the numbered wheels of the odometer and trip counter. Missing teeth commonly caused by the age of the part would stop odometer function. The replacement part that we are offering has correct tooth module that will mesh up with the corresponding gears of the odometer mechanism.
Installation of the replacement gear calls for removal of the remnants of the old gear, and clearing the landing area for its replacement by cutting off 3 of the half moon shaped sectors as shown on the picture(B) with the red arrows pointing . For perfect fit , 3 of the smaller holes on the replacement gear (d) may have to be opened up to fit the remaining round stubs of the the cluster (C)
While a broken gear is the most common reason for odometer malfunctioning, it is by no means the only one. In come cases, replacing broken gears does not solve the problem. Sometimes electronic components also need to be repaired or replaced.
If the gear that you got from us is TOO snug on the POD shaft of the odometer you are repairing- your odometer has 26 teeth gear. (https://swedishcarparts.com/parts/1670-3515296-volvo-240-speedometer-repair-gear-26-teeth)
Yes, You can still install this gear that we are offering, by making the shaft hole adjustments.
Look closely at the one that you are removing, and IF you found that the original gear IS NOT damaged, but the odometer is not functioning- the circuit board may need to be repaired and old CAPACITORS replaced with new ones.
