Genuine ignition knock sensor (detonation sensor) for Volvo 240 models from 1983 through 1988. This sensor helps control ignition timing and plays a key role in engine performance.

If your vehicle has a large ignition control module mounted next to the windshield washer reservoir on the passenger side, it uses this type of knock sensor.

A failing knock sensor can cause symptoms such as excessive fuel consumption, black smoke from the exhaust, rough starting, engine stalling at intersections, or hesitation in stop-and-go traffic. If you’re experiencing these issues, it may be time to replace the sensor.

The knock sensor is located on the engine block between cylinders 2 and 3, near the temperature gauge sensor. Both sensors use flat-blade electrical connectors, but the temperature sensor is smaller—be sure to identify them correctly when disconnecting.

When installing, torque the sensor to 8 ft/lbs (11 Nm). This is about hand-tight with a wrench. Apply anti-seize compound to the threads before installation to ensure proper seating and future removal.
